Christmas in Progress City

Taking its cue from the beautifully mid-century modern aesthetics and music of the 1967 version of General Electric's Carousel of Progress that culminates in a Christmas scene set on the outskirts of Walt Disney's E.P.C.O.T. called "Progress City", this musical compilation endeavors to create an atmosphere of period-appropriate holiday music that one might have heard playing in "Mother & Father's" home before a theater of eager GE customers unceremoniously rotates into their living room. Using the original Progressland score orchestrated masterfully by Buddy Baker as a template, each song has been selected to closely resemble the idealistic tone of the attraction within the most optimistic time of the year!

So dim the lights, as we turn on Father's Hi-Fi and spend Christmas in Progress City...

Progress City: Golden Anniversary

Although the park is only in its mid-30s, the EPCOT concept itself (developed in 1966) has now reached its Golden Anniversary! In tribute to this event and serendipitously commemorating our 50th Background, we bring you a unique look at the vision that truly started it all — Welcome to Progress City: 50th Anniversary!

The Futurism of Walt Disney

It has often been said that if you interview 20 people who knew Walt, you’d get 20 different Walt Disneys.
But what version of Walt is the most important: the Movie Mogul, the Artist, the Storyteller, the Benevolent Dictator, etc.? All are certainly fine candidates, but the most unique, the most impactful, and the most cohesive version of the man, is Walt Disney the Visionary Innovator. For all of his greatest achievements, as if plotted on a scatter chart, can be traced through his singular focus on innovation.

Many a documentarian, with vast facilities & large production staff has tried to capture the “true” Walt Disney, with varying degrees of success (Walt: Man behind the Myth) or abject failure (The American Experience). And None of them — Not One — has managed to put on film exactly why 50 years after his death many of us are continually fascinated with or (in many cases) obsessed by this man.

UNTIL NOW.

Christian M Moran, has almost singlehandedly created The Greatest Documentary Ever Produced about Walt Disney.

As a Disney Historian myself with nearly 25 years of intensive study of both the Man and his Legacy, this is not a statement I make lightly. Furthermore, it is one that I’m more than willing (and mightily prepared) to defend.

But the film more than speaks for itself, and on a deeply personal level, Christian has, more than anything, captured MY Version of Walt Disney: the Dreamer and (most importantly) the Doer.

Christian,
I seriously cannot thank you enough for this.

Most Sincerely & Heartfelt,
—Joshua L Harris

Plus Ultra

In the month to come, Walt Disney Pictures will return to the parks for inspiration in a cinematic reinterpretation of a Disneyland classic, only this time on a far larger scale. In contrast to previous efforts focused on singular attraction, Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland expands its reach to encompass several macrocosmic concepts of the park’s most original realm.  “A place where nothing is impossible” is not only an intriguing tagline, but also an inspirational mantra that if expanded to the real world could yield far-reaching and enormously positive results.
Here at The E82 Project we have the perspective that a place of seemingly infinite possibilities did exist and could once more. But for now, lets celebrate the revival of futurism potentially just over the horizon with a Tomorrowland inspired tribute to Walt’s greatest dream…

The 4th Dimension

Coming in the near future, the E82 universe will expand beyond the realms of static art, musical compilation, historical dissertation and philosophic analysis to include animated simulations, and a host of other projects expressed in the forth dimension (time).

In order to properly showcase this new form of expression, "E82 Films" had to have its own motion picture-style logo and here are the results…

Logo Description:

Beginning at the outermost edge of the universe, we journey through the spiraling heart of the "Epcot Galaxy" passing the park's original set of nine pavilion logos all coalescing together to explode outwards becoming the Progress City Supernova on the edge of which orbits majestic Spaceship Earth.

UPDATE:

The E82 Films Logo has become the latest Case Study on the JLH Omni Blog!

From the pitfalls to the enormous possibilities, head to JLH Omnimedia on E82 to get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of this benchmark-setting project!
