The State of E82

Here it is - The third Anniversary of The E82 Project! After a much needed (and unscheduled) break during the holiday season, E82 is back with a New Look, a much improved banner, and a new column, JLH Omnimedia is to be my personal blog, with insights on multiple topics and the home of all Behind the Scenes information (and sneak peeks on upcoming projects).
Click on the Image below to read just what’s planned for 2012.

JLH Omnimedia is also its own separate entity with its own RSS News Feed.
Additionally, updates will typically not be featured on the E82 News page.

Personal Note/Reality Check:
Just a day ago, I received a rather disturbing comment in essence stating that E82 was now part of a long list of dead projects. Please keep in mind that I am just one man with a singular vision for the future of E82. I also have a Full-Time Job, attend College Full-Time (at Full Sail University) and have family obligations that often take precedence over this unfunded personal project. 2011 was a very difficult year for me, pushing tolerance limits on all levels. It’s amazing that E82 was able to progress at all. So please keep that in mind whenever I disappear for any length of time, I WILL BE BACK, and will continue releasing albums, expositions, artwork and insight until this project is done. By my calculations we still have a Very Long journey ahead and many more Worlds to explore.

The Stars of Winter

From 1994 to 2009, the Lights of Winter served as a centerpiece of the annual “Epcot – Holidays Around the World” event. With its 30,000 synchronized lights and inspiring music, the display perfectly bridged the gap between the technological and traditional Worlds of Epcot. Many a night during early December, you would find me sitting under the archway or by the Fountain of Nations absorbing the almost spiritual splendor of this most transfixing of experiences.
The “Stars of Winter” pays tribute to the original Lights by ascending them into the heavens to become an entire constellation encircling a dormant Spaceship Earth.

The Hidden Art of E82

Being a highly analytical Historian AND a perfectionist Designer can lead to some really interesting (read that arduous) methods of art execution. A few years ago I “constructed” a bulb-for-bulb recreation of the Italian inspired Lights of Winter, my absolute favorite Holiday experience (which you’ll find here). Towards the end of last year I began experimenting with a few new techniques that, if done correctly could create a far more elegant and subtle illustration. Furthermore, I want to create a schematically perfect set of lights that could be used for multiple projects in the future. In order to accomplish this I decided the best method was to recreate the entire archway (this time with flanking light patterns) below is the armature with guidelines for the 2011 Lights of Winter vector. And strangely enough, this particular piece of digital engineering will never appear on any product.

Side Note: One would think that the arches themselves, with their delicate French curves and spirals would be the hardest thing to recreate. Surprisingly, the Celtic-like “Light Grids” (as I call them) were literally mind-boggling as dissecting the intricate complexity of what-color-goes-where did give me a headache while determining the proper representation.
