American Vistas

When you work for a 365 Company and practically all of your holidays are on a time clock, after a decade or so you start thinking some really weird things. Things like: “I really don’t see myself celebrating Independence Day this year”. But, then I think about all the things that America has given me, and how thankful I am to be born in a country were Dreamers and Doers are celebrated equally. The biggest of all these was Walt Disney, “an American Original” who believe that a technology-driven Unified World of Tomorrow was “just a dream away.” So to celebrate the same spirit that created the Legacy of EPCOT, I’d like to present our first VISTA from across the lagoon.

Designers Note: Usually I can’t tell how long I work on these, but considering I Started the whole process last minute at less than 48 hours ago I can say it took 18 hours to work on this one. (12 hours alone just to Vectorize the Pavilion!) And Yes, there are exactly 50 stars in the widescreen version.

To All People of All Nations
Happy Independence Day!

"TOMORROW will be better for as long as America keeps alive the ideals of freedom and a better life… What I will say now is just what most of us are probably thinking every day. I thank GOD and AMERICA for the right to live and raise my family under the flag of Tolerance, Democracy and Freedom."

-Walt Disney

America!
Spread your golden wings
Sail on freedom's wind, across the sky!

VISTA SERIES – Growing Light

Rising from the earth, the futuristic greenhouse of The Land is encircled by growing light beams glowing in grass green and sun yellow signifying the symbiosis created by photosynthesis.

Designer’s Note: Creating these backgrounds is sometimes done in silence but more often is accompanied by music. In almost every case, the music played has nothing to do with the subject matter, but in this case I realized just how much The Land looks like the Devil’s Tower featured in Close Encounters while listening to its score. The film came out 1977 and The Land was designed shortly after its release so one can help but wonder if the film’s climatic location served as the direct inspiration for the pavilion. What Do You Think?

VISTA SERIES - The Power of the Sun

Witness the Universe of Energy radiating with the power of the Sun. Its deep red hues gradually heating up to a white hot glow feeding the pavilion’s photovoltaic array for your “Ride on Sunshine”.

Warning: You might need sunglasses to view this edition of the Vista Series!

Designer’s Note: Believe it or not but the most time consuming aspect of making these is also the smallest and most difficult thing to see. The Line Art of each pavilion is (will be) carefully designed to not only capture the essence of the architecture but have the same “weight” for each subject.

Announcing The EPCOT VISTA Series

Taking its cue from the Aurora Borealis and Light Beamed style backgrounds made popular by the Windows and Mac operating systems. Epcot Vistas is an abstraction of the logos, color palettes, and architecture of Epcot’s many pavilions.
It should come as no shock that the first of these is the Journey Into Imagination. Its spiral logo is extrapolated in the light beams that surround it, with the pavilion’s signature blue and purple color scheme serving as the inspiration for the hues in this piece.
