Christmas in Progress City

Taking its cue from the beautifully mid-century modern aesthetics and music of the 1967 version of General Electric's Carousel of Progress that culminates in a Christmas scene set on the outskirts of Walt Disney's E.P.C.O.T. called "Progress City", this musical compilation endeavors to create an atmosphere of period-appropriate holiday music that one might have heard playing in "Mother & Father's" home before a theater of eager GE customers unceremoniously rotates into their living room. Using the original Progressland score orchestrated masterfully by Buddy Baker as a template, each song has been selected to closely resemble the idealistic tone of the attraction within the most optimistic time of the year!

So dim the lights, as we turn on Father's Hi-Fi and spend Christmas in Progress City...

EPCOT | Recentered — Prologue

"Where have we come from, where are we going?
The answers begin in our past."
— Ray Bradbury, Spaceship Earth 1982

EPCOT is not a fairy tale, a fantasy or a legend, it is the story man — of our time on the planet with flashbacks to the past and flashforwards to the future. Any treatise on the legacy and destiny of such an enterprise cannot begin without first acknowledging its place and importance in the progression of human progress. If that sounds a little grandiose for what is often mischaracterized as a "theme park" all will be explained in due course.
But for now, let's start things off will a Bang. . . a Very Big one.

In order to fully experience the complex details of this Prologue,
I would suggest you download the source video file.

IMPORTANT

As work continues on the completion of "EPCOT | Recentered", the biggest hurdle to overcome is financial. This extraordinary complex, highly-experimental and largely altruistic message has brought me to the brink of bankruptcy. Just to upload the final film will cost more than $200 dollars (of which I do not have).  If you can, please contribute to the completion of this endeavor, either by purchasing one of my products in Centorium, or becoming a VIP Member

Studios Soundtrack Series

As a celebration of cinema, the Disney•MGM Studios had decades of soundtracks with which to weave its soundscapes. From sweeping scores performed with large orchestras to more intimate leitmotifs expressed by small ensembles, the original underscores of the park were used to both convey a sense of time and place while simultaneously providing an extremely effective reference point for the park's metanarrative.

The Disney•MGM Studios Soundtrack Series has been created to preserve the original atmospheres of the park by presenting restorations of its underscores.

Naturally, we'll begin with ACT 1 - Scene 1 with the dramatic overtures of Entrance Plaza...

The Studio Sound

In the 1939 classic, "Gone with the Wind" the character Gerald O'Hara states "that land is the only thing [in the world] that lasts". When it comes to theme park history, its Music that's the only thing that lasts, or at least the only aspect that can be preserved throughout time. As a park set in the Golden Age of Cinema, the Disney•MGM Studios had a nearly unlimited amount of lush soundtracks with which to create its soundscapes. The following is an infinitesimally small sampling of its symphonic legacy.
